Steven Fagell, deputy chief of staff for Assistant Attorney General Lanny Breuer, is leaving the post for a return to Covington & Burling LLP, The Blog of the Legal Times reports.
Fagell was a partner at Covington & Burling prior to joining the Department of Justice in January 2009. At the firm, Fagel’s practice focused on white collar criminal defense, internal corporate investigations and complex civil litigation. He is expected to return to Covington & Burling in August.
Covington managing partner Tim Hester told the BLT Fagell will return in a similar role “where experience and background at the Justice Department will be relevant.”
Fagell was a member of the DOJ’s Crimial Division senior leadership team. He served as a counselor to Breuer on issues including the Financial Fraud Enforcement Task Force and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.
