Another Black Day: DLA Piper Lays Off 120 [Update]

Blawgs are reporting this morning that DLA Piper is laying off 20 lawyers and 100 staff today.

The layoffs are targeting the firm’s offices in Chicago and New York.

So far this year, the firm cut 22 in the Middle East; cut 37 trainees; laid off 12 lawyers in Oceania; let go 24 lawyers and 100 support staff in the UK; cut 80 associates and 100 staff across the firm; and laid off 20 lawyers and 34 staff in Asia.

DLA Piper is one of the largest law firms in the world. It is a legal services organization whose members and affiliates are separate and distinct legal entities. The organization boasts more than 3,500 lawyers in 29 countries and 65 office.

UPDATE

DLA Piper has now officially confirmed it laid off 21 lawyers and 100 staff today.

    i think that this is showing how much this economic crisis is affecting us,
    not just from the bush administration but from the clintons, and obama,
    We all need to stand together and help our powerful nation regain its strength,

    Im not sure how to take all the job cuts. How many support jobs might they have saved by laying off more of the higher paid lawyers? Seems that keeping those jobs would have a greater impact on the economy.
