Steptoe & Johnson has opened an office in Lexington, Kentucky, the firm’s eighth.
Jeffrey Phillips will be managing member of the new office; he is joined by his wife Susan Phillips.
Three lawyers formerly practicing as Johnson, Bowling & Lycan will join the new office: Gillard Johnson, Michael Bowling and Eric Lycan.
Steptoe & Johnson LLP is a Washington DC-based law firm with over 450 attorneys working out of eight offices around the world. It was founded in 1913 in West Virginia.
Steptoe & Johnson PLLC is a 180+ lawyer firm with seven offices in West Virginia and Ohio.
CORRECTION
Both a JDJournal tipster and a commenter have brought to my attention that it is the Steptoe & Johnson PLLC based in West Virginia that has opened a Kentucky office, not the Steptoe & Johnson LLP based in Washington, DC.
Normally I’d issue a mea culpa here. But seriously — two law firms with exactly the same name? I know they’re both descended from the same firm, but this is just boneheaded. Confusion must happen all the time.
