Rumor: Manatt Phelps to Let Go “Lots” of Staffers

A trusted source for legal industry rumors tells JD Journal that Manatt Phelps is letting go “lots” of staffers today.

Founded in 1965, Manatt, Phelps & Phillips LLP is a Los Angeles-based law firm of approximately 450 attorneys and other professionals. The firm earned revenues in excess of $240 million in 2007. Manatt also operates a subsidiary, ManattJones Global Strategies, which offers a range of consulting services to public and private corporations.

    4 secretaries; 8 floaters and 6 marketing people were laid off in the Los Angeles office January 15. Associates were disappearing throughout the latter part of the 2008. Manatt is a wonderful Firm and the management is wonderful. The layoff was viewed as weathering the economic storm. We miss each other.
